Hyde Stakes Tips & Betting Preview

The feature race on Wednesday’s Kempton card is a £40,000 Listed event over 1m. Read on for our experts’ betting tips and horse-by-horse race preview.

IN SUMMARY: We need to take the fitness of ENNAARD on trust after a 228 day absence but Roger Varian is a past master at getting his mounts fully revved up and given that he looked rapidly progressive on Polytrack before his absence he is the one to side with here. Hathal, now a non runner, looked to be the biggest danger to the selection as well the reliable 7yo Sovereign Debt who comes here in good form and also has a major role to play.

1 RICHARD PANKHURST – Disappointed when a warm favourite for this race last year, and that remains his sole AW start, but readily won the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury (7f, good to firm) in August and both subsequent Group 2 turf runs were very respectable; in the mix if able to transfer that level of form to Polytrack.

2 HATHAL (non runner) – Found the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes too hot at Ascot last month but looked very progressing on soft turf in September, winning a 7f Listed event and a 1m Group 3; untested on the AW but could easily have more to offer if suited by this surface; one to consider.

3 SOVEREIGN DEBT – Fully exposed at the age of seven but been very consistent in Group/Listed company in recent years and hit the target twice over 7f on turf last month; will also be suited by today’s trip/surface and there’s every chance he’ll be in the thick of things again.

4 CALLING OUT – Won a 1m Polytrack conditions race at Lingfield in December and won’t be far away if matching the form of his second in a small-field Listed race at Doncaster (1m, soft) in April, but he’s been absent since running as though something was amiss 217 days ago and others have less to prove.

5 HERE COMES WHEN – Collected a small-field conditions race at Bath (1m, good to soft) in September and certainly didn’t run badly when midfield in a hot handicap at Ascot (1m, good) last month; evidently not as good as he once was, though, and is not yet proven on Polytrack.

6 YOU’RE FIRED – Not seen on the AW since winning a 6f 2yo maiden here in October 2013 but landed a valuable handicap at Haydock (1m, good) in April and was second in a 7f Listed race there the following month; subsequent form not wildly exciting, though, and he’s not really favoured by today’s weights.

7 ENNAARD – Low-mileage 3yo who completed a hat-trick with narrow-margin success in a C&D conditions race in April; subsequently missed the whole of the turf season but there’s a good chance we are yet to see the best of him; danger to all if fully revved up after 228-day absence.

8 HAVRE DE PAIX – Made all in a Polytrack maiden at Chelmsford (1m) in March and ran a very game race from the front when close fourth in Listed company at Chantilly (1m1f, soft) last month; can probably collect some valuable “black type” at some stage but others stronger today.

9 DAWAA – Posted new career-best performance to win Class 3 handicap at Newbury (7f, good to soft) in October and also gave a decent account when fourth in a 6f Listed event at Doncaster this month, but can only take this prize if the step up in trip unlocks some improvement.

myracing Forecast Prices: 5/2 Ennaard, 11/4 Sovereign Debt, 4/1 Hathal, 6/1 Richard Pankhurst, 14/1 Here Comes When, Dawaa, 16/1 Calling Out, You’re Fired, 25/1 Havre De Paix
