Greyhound Derby Tips & Preview

This week sees the start of the 2018 Greyhound Derby at Towcester. Three nights of heats beginning on Thursday kick off the biggest competition in the country. All rounds will be featured on our greyhound tips, leading up to the final on the 2nd of June. We have two special guests helping to preview the contest this year, joining our own in-house tipsters are Dave Clark and Jonathan Hobbs. Known for their work at the Racing Post, RPGTV, Sky dogs and ATR between them. We’ll have a preview for each night of the opening round on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a more in-depth look at the main contenders. We start with the best bets for the competition.

Who Wins The 2018 Greyhound Derby?

Myracing:- Droopys Verve has looked like a monster in the making so far, his 28.77 calc in a trial stake was a display of sheer brutality. He has a special mix of early pace and staying power, yet to finish worse than second in his career. He is a versatile type with regards to draw, looking a pup with plenty more to come from him.

Dave Clark:- It’s Bruisers Bullet for me. He’s already proved himself a durable sort, which is an attribute punters should look out for – the Derby, more than anything else, is a gruelling test. He has posted the second-fastest time over the 500m so far this year and last year clocked the third-fastest. With Mark Wallis in his corner searching for a third Derby success, he has one of the very in the business training him.

Jonathan Hobbs:- King Elvis tops my list. That burst of pace he’s got into the bend will serve him well at Towcester – and to the third bend, he’s in the top two or three fastest ever at the track! That speed always gives you a chance, and supporters can only hope he gets stronger as the Derby unfolds.

Outsiders To Watch

Myracing:- Slippy Cian comes from the Kirby Memorial where Droopys Davy was an impressive winner. He flew round in the semis, running on well having found trouble in the Final. A 29.44 first look at Towcester was very solid. Power Local is unexposed, 5/10 in his career. He’s won from T1, T2 and T3 and can burn the candle at both ends. Yet to race at Towcester but 29.15 in a trial shows he has the brute speed.

Dave Clark:- There is no way Calico Brandy should be three-figures. He caught the eye behind Rising Brandy last time out and ran very well to finish runner-up to King Turbo in the Astute Electronics Gold Cup. I also like Charlie Lister’s Dorotas Vic, who has matured and improved for a winter rest.

Jonathan Hobbs:-  There’s a strong running bitch who catches the eye. Bull Run Button is a likeable sort. She hugged the rails in a recent trial, so T3 on Saturday is tricky, however, that’s why three-figure odds are still available.
