Eleven line-up for this tight looking Handicap Chase that should run be run at a good gallop with 29,500 Euros up for grabs. Read on for our experts’ thoughts and betting tips.
IN SUMMARY: Art Of Payroll can always be relied upon to give his running but he keeps finding one too good and that should be the case again today. Turn Over Sivola was fifth in the Grand Annual for Alan King and reached a mark of 140 so is extremely interesting making his debut for the irrepressible Gordon Elliott and he should take a hand here along with the two JP McManus representatives People’s Park and JARRY D’HONNEUR. The first named has turned into a better Chaser than he was a Hurdler and runs over an interesting mark today but the latter is with the Champion Trainer, and his form at Punchestown when handing a beating to Bishop’s Road, looks good in the context of this race and he could be hard to beat if ready to go after an absence.
Dandridge – Progressive Handicapper last season winning a Handicap Chase at Wexford in good style by 8 ½ lengths last October, and followed up in a better race two starts later at Doncaster by 5 lengths. 50 lengths behind in fourth behind Tell Us More from the Gordon Elliott yard in a Grade 3 at Naas latest. That form is worrying in this line up and can be ruled out for this.
Jarry D’Honneur – Won a 5-runner Novice Chase at Navan last March in tidy fashion and has been off the track since. Showed good form for a hat-trick of wins when trained in France and should be primed for this. Stable remains in rude health and makes Handicap Chase debut today. Should make a bold bid here.
Art Of Payroll – Hasn’t won in 14 runs since getting up to score at Leopardstown in early 2014. Has finished runner-up in three runs already this Autumn behind smart horses Some Plan, A Toi Phil and Rogue Trader on his last start at Punchestown 14 days ago. Down in trip today and should run his race again. Bit more needed to win here mind.
Lough Derg – Previously trained by Robert Tyner where he rattled up a hat-trick at Clonmel and Naas (twice) back in 2014/15. Hasn’t really reached those heights since and only fifth of 7 in a Handicap Chase at Cork 13 days ago when looked in need of a stronger gallop. Looks up against it here.
Turn Over Sivola – Previously trained by Alan King and showed smart Chasing form having previously been rated 140. Only 12th of 13 at Punchestown 13 days ago but the yard continue to churn out winners and a bold showing is on the cards if translating Hurdling form to Chases. Big player off a mark of 126 here.
Empresario – Has won once already from 3 runs this season, with that coming at Navan in September by ¾ of a length. Only seventh of 11 in a Handicap on the Flat at Dundalk latest and reverts back to Chasing today. Down in trip today and that flat outing should have him primed for this although he will need a career-best in this hot event.
My Hometown – Held in high regard by Enda Bolger, he was a winner under Rules and remains lightly-raced for his age. Won on debut at Limerick two years ago and good runs in a couple of Chases after that. Only eighth of 9 in a Novice event at Leopardstown when last seen 11 months ago and makes his Handicap debut today. Long absence to overcome and best watched for now unless the market speaks in his favour.
Peoples Park – Won over Hurdles at Fairyhouse and Navan earlier in career before landing a decent-looking Chase at Ballinrobe in May by 6 lengths. Looked in need of the run last time at Galway when fourth of 7 in a Novice Chase at Galway 34 days ago. Lightly-raced over Fences and commands plenty of respect in this line-up off a mark of 122.
On The Shannon – Won here back in March, getting up to score by 3 ¼ lengths. Fair form since including a sixth of 13 in Handicap Chase at Punchestown two weeks ago. Down in trip today and passed over not least in part because his two wins have come over further.
Caolaneoin – Won at Naas in March, scoring comfortably by 10 lengths in a Beginner’s Chase. Well below form when only eighth at Fairyhouse last time out and really hard to fancy switching from Hurdles to Chasing.
Mister Hotelier – Won this race two years ago from 6lb higher but well below form in 15 runs ever since. Only sixth of 7 in a Handicap Chase at Cork 13 days ago when Hooded for the first time. Wears Blinkers today and not the force of old so easy to dismiss.
