Clonmel Oil Chase Tips & Betting Preview

The feature race on today’s card always attracts some of the country’s top barns and this has a mouth-watering prospect to it especially as some of these will be heading towards the big Christmas meetings before the Cheltenham Festival in March.

IN SUMMARY: Outlander will no doubt be popular with his yard in top form and he was a useful novice last season. That being said Alelchi Inois is a high-class chaser and he will certainly give it his best shot but the selection is MONKSLAND for Noel Meade whose horses are looking more forward than normal for this time of year and having won the big race here on Sunday, can be fancied to be tough to beat in a race of a similar profile.

1 Days Hotel – Won handsomely by 7 lengths at Naas in February but below form the next two starts. Has shown smart chasing form so far in his career and his trainer remains in good form and has strong form lines against some of these. Up in trip today and has a 6 month absence to overcome but if ready to go will have a live chance and the market will guide as to expectations.

2 Clarcam – Only 5th of 6 runners on his return at Punchestown 35 days ago behind Saddler’s Risk from the De Bromhead yard but previously smart chasing form for Gordon Elliott including back-to-back wins at Killarney and then Down Royal in the summer winning by a combined total of 14 ½ lengths. Has fitness on his side but appears to be stable second-string and will find a some of these too hot today.

3 Outlander – Ran well on his first start for Gordon Elliott 12 days ago in a Grade 2 Chase at Down Royal when 2nd of 7 to Sub Lieutenant (Henry De Bromhead). Looks stable first string and is a big player on best form.

4 Alelchi Inois – Has won twice already this season at Galway and Punchestown in the summer having beaten Clarcam by 32 lengths in his last race. A very smart chaser on his day although was a bit below form last time out in a Grade 1 in Italy 53 days ago and can return to form here. Looks primed for a big run.

5 Draycott Place – Won back-to-back chases at Sligo and Cork at the start of the Autumn winning both easily. Goes up in trip again and is a smart chaser on his day. May struggle to contain a couple of these though.

6 Dromnea – Finished 2nd in a Handicap Chase at Galway 17 days ago and useful enough chaser when on song. Didn’t beat much that day and will struggle against these even on best form.

7 Monksland – Has smart hurdling form to his name and has 1 win already this season winning by a head to the smart Marinero (Henry De Bromhead) at Galway last month. Was going well when fell in the Jnwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal 12 days ago and will need to brush up his jumping here but if none the worse for that fall will be tough to beat for a trainer and jockey who have started the season well and who won the big race in Ireland on Sunday in a similar sort of race. Big player.
