Eleven horses’ line-up for this Class 6 Maiden Stakes over 1m1f here at Wolverhampton and a few nice types are on show for this. Read on for our experts’ thoughts and betting tips.
IN SUMMARY: Of those with experience Doctor Bartolo looks the pick of those with form. He ran well in a better ace last time and can certainly get involved here from stall 11. John Gosden has been sending out plenty of winners recently and Hertford Dancer can also go close if improving on her Kempton fourth last time but she may have to play second fiddle to stablemate PERCY B SHELLEY who is related to plenty of winners and has profile of one who should do well going forward. He can make a winning debut from stall 6.
Delagate This Lord – Three runs so far and has finished twice last including latest run here ten days ago when 100/1. Likely to be a similar price again here and for good reason.
Doctor Bartolo – Runner up at Newmarket (Good/Firm) in a Class 4 Maiden Stakes in September and filled that position again when ¾ of a length behind Red Gunner here 16 days ago. Dropped in grade here and should give it a good shout.
Dream Magic – Only twelfth of 13 on debut, slowly away and never on terms. Similar outcome awaits here and will find easier races in time.
Hot Lick – Two runs for yard now and tenth of 13 at Kempton 26 days ago after finishing last there on debut. Needs massive improvement to figure here judged on those two starts.
Kissinger – Wasn’t given a hard time of it last time at Kempton when eighth of 13 and run was blocked three out. Finished last of 12 first time at Chelmsford and held again here.
Percy B Shelley – Half-brother to the smart Archipenko and cost 60,000gns as a yearling. Related to some smart 7f winners Hatta Fort and Blue Bayou. Dam won up to 9f and he has a good pedigree for this sphere. Top yard has been sending out winners for fun on the AW recently and also run Hertford Dancer. Likely to know his job first time-out and very interesting on debut.
Solent Meads – Didn’t show much on debut in a class 5 at Kempton in September when seventh of 8 but improved when upped in grade two starts back when two-lengths third behind the well-baked favourite. Went backwards dropped in grade latest start and back in a class 6 here may find some improvement but hard-held with a few of these here and connections now reach for blinkers.
Hertford Dancer – Foxwedge filly who has had two runs so far. Sixth on debut at Yarmouth (Good/Soft) in October well beaten in fourth on AW debut at Kempton over 1m2f on last start 19 days ago. Drops in trip and grade here and should fare better. Stable also run Percy B Shelley.
Nostalgie – Only four runs for this Archipenko filly and she showed good progress in three runs when runner-up at Chelmsford two starts ago over 7f 32 days ago. Took a step backwards at Newcastle 13 days ago and a lot to prove right now in this line-up up in trip.
Pattie – Sixties Icon filly who has had two runs so far and showed improvement on first run when fourth at Haydock (Good/Firm) in September when held up in mid-division and then placed third on last start at Newcastle, ridden closer to the pace that time and failing to see it out over 7f. Dropped in grade and up in trip here and not without a chance but vulnerable to an improver.
The Last Debutante – Henrythenavigator filly with two runs under her belt at Kempton and Chelmsford over 1m. Fair form in both and should improve for the longer trip but more needed here.
