6.25pm Chelmsford Tips & Betting Preview 17/11/2016

A very competitive 13 runner 0-105 handicap at Chelmsford worth £12,450 over the seven furlongs. Read on for our expert analysis, runner by runner guide and tip for the race.

IN SUMMARY: Chris Dwyer’s Basil Berry must hold every chance from the inside berth in Stall 1 but a chance is taken with THAT IS THE SPIRIT (8/1) who must have a huge chance if he can overcome the wide draw in Stall 11. The David O’Meara trained 5 year old beat Mount Tahan in a Class 3 handicap at Ayr in September, coming from a long way back to get up. He ran no sort of race at Leicester last time out but he looks an interesting proposition with William Buick booked for the ride on his first All Weather start.

1 CHOOKIE ROYALE – Caught all of his rivals napping when making all at Kempton over seven furlongs in a Conditions race last time out. He won’t get the same luxury here coming out of Stall 12 as he will use up a lot of energy to get to the front. Course and distance winner and Shirley Teasdale takes off five pounds but he has a very tough task at the weights.

2 RIGHT TOUCH – Has the widest draw of them all way out in Stall 13 so life won’t be easy. Won at Chester over six furlongs on soft ground in July and is another that likes to race prominently. Looks a bit high in the weights at present and the overall opinion is to avoid.

3 BASIL BERRY – Lovely pitch in Stall 1 so this 5 year old will be able to get into a lovely early position if he breaks away well. Beat Baccarat in a three runner affair at Yarmouth in September and was a winner on the All Weather at Wolverhampton off a four pound lower mark this time last year. Each way claims.

4 THAT IS THE SPIRIT – All Weather debutante but is by Invincible Spirit so the surface should be just fine. Not the most ideal of draws in Stall 11 but there’s no better man in the saddle in William Buick. Won at Ayr off 91 in September and expect him to come home with a late rattle down the outside.

5 SUPERSTA – Three time course winner who thrives on this course and has a lovely draw in Stall 3. Last win here came off 93 and he is off 96 in this race so he’s still not badly treated and All Weather king Luke Morris takes the ride. Looks one of the more likely winners in the race.

6 INTRANSIGENT – 7 wins from his 57 starts to date and although he couldn’t land a blow at Lingfield last time out, he posted two solid efforts at Chester and Leicester before hand, finishing second on both occasions. He was placed off 103 on the All Weather in the past so he could be well treated off 95 here.

7 VOLUNTEER POINT – Won the All Weather Fillies’ & Mares’ Championships at Lingfield earlier in the year which was a brilliant performance. However, she hasn’t got her head in front since but she ran well enough in Listed company last time out and must enter calculations off the back of that.

8 CHARLES MOLSON – Frustrating horse who seems to always run a decent race but never looks like actually winning one. Last win came in June 2015 and he is on a long losing streak since. Decent draw here and is off a nice weight but it’s hard to back him with any confidence.

9 HE’S NO SAINT – Another David O’Meara trained runner in the field with Martin Harley booked to ride. He was only beat a head over this course and distance by George William last month off a mark of 88. That was a cracking effort and he must hold strong each way claims off a three pound higher mark.

10 MOHAB – Kevin Ryan trained Sir Percy colt who has time on his side, he is only three. Hacked up over this distance at Catterick on his second start on good to firm ground so this top of the ground surface should suit. Well beat on his last five starts though and needs to show a lot more.

11 LOYALTY – Medicean gelding who has a lovely inside berth in Stall 2 but the Derek Shaw inmate might be a bit outclassed here. Good second here over a mile two starts back in a Class 4 handicap but this is a big step up in class. Small each way claims at the weights but doesn’t look a likely winner.

12 FORCEFUL APPEAL – Two time course winner, winning over the mile here on both occasions. His last success here came off a mark of 85 and he is still a pound higher in the weights. On a long losing run now and he needs to creep down the weights further to be of any interest.

13 BADDILINI – Was subject to a gamble three days ago at Lingfield and he ran a solid race to finish third to Alkhor off a mark of 84. He is just a pound higher here and must have place claims once more but he might just find one or two good once again.
