‘The last time he runs in a handicap’ – Trainer bullish about his runner’s Lincoln chance

Harry Eustace is set for a massive day on ITV on Saturday as he sends out two runners with big chances in a couple of the feature races. Docklands is currently favourite for the Listed William Hill Mile at Doncaster and La Botte also heads the market for the Lincoln.

Stating openly that this will be La Botte‘s final time running in a handicap is a massive statement and obviously means he feels he is a Group-class horse. Could this horse be about to deliver a massive performance?

Eustace stated: “He’s lightly raced and hopefully the experience at Wolverhampton will stand him in good stead on Saturday,” said Eustace. “We drew wide at Wolverhampton and I was very keen not to get stuck on the outside, but he ended up too far. If he’d gone and won he was going to go for the Listed race on Saturday but we’re sticking with the Lincoln now.

“I think it’ll be the last time he runs in a handicap. No matter what you think is still to come, it’s tough off his handicap mark, but the Lincoln is worth £150,000 and the Listed race £60,000, which is part of it as well.

“The lack of runs caught him out at Ascot but I hope we’ve got enough into him now. We’ll see what the ground is and what the pace is like but I’ll leave it up to Jamie,” Eustace added. “He’s matured a lot. Even last year we felt he’d be a better horse again this term. He’s got to go and prove it now but we’re very happy with how he is and we’re looking forward to getting him out on the grass.

“He’s very lightly raced really to get to a mark of 104, but I think it’s all ahead of him. His owners are Australian so we’re working back from Ascot. What race at Ascot is to be decided and will be determined by his next few runs. He’ll stay a mile and a quarter in time, so there are plenty of options depending how it pans out for him.”
