‘It would be the ideal test’ – 50/1, 33/1 and 25/1 ante-post Cheltenham Festival tips

It’s always a good idea for National Hunt racing fans to keep one eye on the Cheltenham Festival, especially as it’s fast-approaching. We’ve had preliminary entries for a lot of the races and there’s some value to be found at this stage of the season. Liam Bramall has picked out three horses at big prices who could be significantly shorter on the day, if results go their way between now and March. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Jack Richards Novices’ Handicap Chase

Wingmen (25/1, bet365) was very competitive in graded novice hurdles last term, with the exception of a below-par effort in the Albert Bartlett. It’s possible that he failed to see out the trip and races over 2m4f will be more to his liking. Winless in three starts over fences, going into handicaps should suit and this would be the ideal test.

Ryanair Chase

Jagwar (33/1, bet365) progressed into a very smart handicap chaser last term and came out on top in the TrustATrader Plate, despite being a novice. He ran a nice race to finish third in the December Gold Cup and should improve significantly for the run. The Ryanair is a little more open than it was at this stage last season and this improving type could go close.

Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Kicour La (50/1, bet365) represents the Ben Pauling yard and they are having an excellent season. This horse won a couple of average races at Leicester, but was visually impressive on the second occasion. He looks ready for a step up in grade and three miles should be right up his street.
