A racing dynasty could be born before our eyes this week, as a very notable name is set to take his first professional ride on Friday. Ryan Moore’s 17-year-old son Toby is set to take one ride at Kempton and it’s for Charlie Appleby. It’ll be bitter-sweet for Ryan as the Godolphin operation are his bosses’ big rivals! Toby has some big shoes to fill and it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on at Kempton. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Valdorcia has a bit of a middle-distance pedigree but her half-sister won two of her four starts for this yard, with both victories coming over 7f. Her dam only made one start but she is related to a Group 2 winner over 1m2f.
The daughter of Oasis Dream finished third over course and distance on debut but was comfortably beaten in the end. Perhaps the penny dropped a little too late but she kept on after getting outpaced initially. A step up in trip could be on the cards at some point but she stays over 6f for now.
Improvement seems likely and the filly would have learnt plenty from the experience. Appleby’s two-year-old knows her job now and a more professional display is expected as a result. Moore’s 7lb allowance could make a big difference, especially if he’s anywhere near as talented as his father!
Roger Varian’s Tarot looks like one of the main dangers, as she has placed in all three starts so far. William Haggas is always dangerous and Albaydaa showed plenty when finishing third at Yarmouth on debut.
