‘There will be eyes everywhere’ – £1,000,000 purchase makes his debut at Kempton

The racing is pretty ordinary on Wednesday but there’s an added element of intrigue at Kempton in the evening. We’re set to see the debut of a seven-figure purchase and there will surely be eyes everywhere. Charlie Appleby trains the horse in question and his course record is reason enough to be confident. He has maintained a very healthy strike-rate across the season, as per usual, and his runner faces just two rivals. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.03 Kempton

Rapid Force is a distant relative of the late Wootton Bassett, which means there’s lots to like about his pedigree. This son of Mehmas is out of a Group-placed mare who won over 5f and 6f shouldn’t be a problem, as his half-brother won over a mile.

Trainer Charlie Appleby has maintained a 31 per cent strike-rate throughout the course of the season and and that’s very impressive. His two-year-olds have performed noticeably well and 35 per cent of his runners in that category have won. No one will be surprised to hear that his 22 runners at Kempton this year have produced eight winners, giving him a strike-rate of 36 per cent.

Mr Writer is the only one of his two rivals to have run before and his best effort came in a course and distance maiden back in June, where he finished second. Zooella also makes her debut and her dam is related to Group 1 winner Lezoo, who also represented the Ralph Beckett yard.

William Buick heads to Kempton for three rides, one of which is this colt. Whilst it’s hard to know what to expect from the unraced filly, Mr Writer’s largely average form means that Charlie Appleby’s colt will be expected to get his career off to a winning start.
