‘He’s got previous’ – William Haggas sends a runner to Naas on Wednesday

We’re used to seeing Irish raiders in Britain but it’s less frequent that British trainers return the favour. Naas’ feature race on Wednesday is the Listed Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes and leading trainer William Haggas is sending a runner over. He’s got previous here at Naas, having had two winners from his six previous runners. Here we take a close look at the horse in question’s chances. 6.40 Naas

Sky Majesty was unbeaten as a two-year-old, winning all three of her starts. She started off in a Newbury maiden, where she came out on top by a nose, and several subsequent winners have come out of the race.

The daughter of Blue Point took the step up to Group 3 level in her stride to score at Ayr next. Held up in the early stages, she began to make headway after the halfway mark and took up the lead inside the final furlong. Haggas’ filly saw the trip out well and went on to score by a neck.

A trip to France was next on the agenda and she duly obliged in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte. The heavy ground was no obstacle and she won cosily, beating the very useful Patrice Cottier-trained filly Daylight.

Her two starts this season have been a little underwhelming but the drop in grade will help. This is certainly much easier than her last task, the Commonwealth Cup. Finishing a respectable eighth, she’s entitled to be bang in the mix here.

The yard’s recent form has been good, as they’re operating at a strike-rate of 30 per cent recently. That bodes well for a big run and Sky Majesty is definitely worth considering.
