Paul Townend is travelling down to Killarney Racecourse to ride one horse for Willie Mullins on Friday and it is his only ride of the week! Given the race is a handicap, that surely has to be a tip in itself given his exceptional strike-rate at the track! Let’s look at the horse in more detail below.
The horse in question is Coole Cherry and the mare will take her chance in the 2m7f handicap hurdle, which looks a competitive race on paper. She was last seen finishing tailed off at Galway last October and hopes rest on her being fresh and well after a lengthy absence.
That bad run is best excused and she’s best judged on her prior second in a competitive Listowel Harvest Festival handicap over 3m, which was a big run off a mark of 111. She is now running off a rating of 113 so she still looks fairly treated on the pick of her form.
Coole Cherry ran out a ten-length winner of a Kilbeggan maiden hurdle last September and she has run well fresh in the past, so there’s every reason to believe she will be ready for this assignment on Friday.
Townend rode four winners from nine rides at the track last season which is a healthy 44 per cent return, while Mullins has a brilliant career strike-rate of 34 per cent at the venue. One thing is for sure, Townend won’t be heading there to make up the numbers. This mare must have a strong winning chance and she could go off a war order. Best of luck if you have a bet.
