Irish trainer sends two runners to Sedgefield for the first time ever on Friday

Northern Ireland-based trainer Gerald Quinn is no stranger to Britain, having had 44 previous runners on these shores. None of those have come at Sedgefield however so it could be significant that he sends two runners there on Friday. 12.35 Sedgefield

Millyupdahilly was a 14-race maiden on the Flat for Peter McCreery, although she wasn’t far away from winning in her last couple of starts for previous connections. Her first couple of starts over hurdles haven’t been particularly promising, she was well beaten when sixth at Naas and it was a similar case at Catterick after that.

A 330-day absence is a significant one to over come and one would imagine she has a bit to find here. There are several likely candidates but Millyupdahilly is lightly raced enough that improvement isn’t out of the question.

1.10 Sedgefield

Takt De Touques was unbeaten in three bumper starts and should be getting off the mark in this sphere sooner or later. This £60,000 purchase showed a good attitude to score at Perth in April and put in a similar performance to follow up over the same course and distance under a penalty after that.

His most impressive effort came at Hexham in June and he made a fine start to his hurdling career, finishing second to a useful Dan Skelton horse. Quinn’s five-year-old wouldn’t need to improve much on that form to go one better here but he’s entitled to do so on just his second start over hurdles.
