The going description at Haydock is currently heavy, soft in places and it’s a track which becomes hard work in testing ground. This means you’ll be on the lookout for horses with good form on heavy and we have you covered on that front. Here are three horses with numerous heavy ground wins that could have an advantage. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Atomic Angel has won three times in nine starts on heavy ground and the nine-year-old returned to winning ways at Hexham in May. Her current mark is 6lb higher and although she was disappointing at Perth when last seen, the return to a softer surface is set to suit. A career-best effort is required if Susan Corbett’s mare is to earn a sixth success but she should be capable of at least making the frame.
Beneficially Yours won both of his starts on heavy ground and they came in maiden and novice company at Newcastle in the Spring. The first was a 51-length demolition job at Newcastle and a 7lb penalty made no difference when equally as impressive over the same course and distance after that. Donald McCain’s gelding could be absolutely anything and it appears that a bog wouldn’t be too soft for him.
Thereisnodoubt has won five races throughout his career and three of those have come on heavy ground. Lucinda Russell’s 11-year-old is winless since September 2023 but a return to the winners’ enclosure shouldn’t be ruled out off a 4lb lower mark here. Needing the run when ninth on seasonal debut, he’s entitled to improve for that effort.
