The National Hunt season will be in full swing over the next few weeks and it’s the most exciting time of year for many fans. That includes us at MyRacing so we’ve selected four potential novice hurdlers and chasers that could go far this season. These include a Gordon Elliott-trained Cheltenham Festival winner who is particularly exciting. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Captain Teague

Paul Nicholls’ Grade 1 hurdle winner was always going to be a chaser and he should blossom over fences. He’s an impressive specimen and the old adage of ‘whatever he does over hurdles will be a bonus’ appears to apply in this case. He managed to win the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle and is likely to be competing in Britain’s top novice chases.

Jeriko Du Reponet

Nicky Henderson’s gelding was clearly impacted by the stables form issues over the course of last season, although he did manage to win a Grade 2. You can ignore his run at Cheltenham in March and if he goes novice chasing this term, the Arkle will surely be on the agenda.

Quebecois

This scopey and imposing gelding won a bumper in good style at Exeter on his rules debut and was then thrown in the deep end. Clearly he wasn’t ready for the Champion Bumper and his size suggests he’ll be significantly better over further and with some obstacles in front of him.

Star Potential

Better Days Ahead was successful at the Cheltenham Festival in March and he was a gutsy winner of the Martin Pipe. Three-mile chases will be his cup of tea at some point and the Brown Advisory looks like the perfect long term target.
