‘They couldn’t be in better form’ – Four horses seeking five-timers on Thursday

It’s rarely a bad idea to be on the lookout for horses in particularly good form as confidence is important. There are four runners on Thursday that could hardly be in better form, having won their last four starts, and they’re definitely worth considering. City Derby has been in the form of his life since May and he showed plenty of stamina when winning his last couple of starts at Cartmel. An 8lb higher mark will obviously make life harder here but you certainly wouldn’t want to rule out another victory.

3.10 Pontefract

Overture bolted up on her last start over 1m2f and she has really kicked on since tackling middle-distances. She won over an extended 1m3f at Yarmouth when last seen and should go close once again under a 6lb penalty. It’ll be interesting to see how far this filly can go.

3.30 Listowel

Rauzan won a mix of handicap and novice hurdles over the summer and was a cosy winner of a Tramore handicap last month. A 9lb rise is probably fair on the evidence of that effort and he’s entitled to run another big race, despite the step up in class.

4.30 Newmarket

Baltic won his final start of 2023, meaning he’s technically already completed a five timer. Harry Charlton’s colt goes for win number five of this season on a 4lb higher mark after winning by a neck at Newcastle back in July and he’s clearly one to keep on side.
