‘Watch the betting closely’ – Emmet Mullins sends first ever runners to Cartmel 👁️

Emmet Mullins is always a trainer to look out for and especially when he sends runners over to Britain. The Irish trainer comes over to Britain fairly frequently but he’s yet to have a runner at Cartmel. That is set to change on Friday as he’s due to send over his first two runners at the track.

1.55 Cartmel

A Cheap Thrill (15-2, bet365) has shown very little in 14 career starts so far, failing to win or finish in the first three. He was given a fairly easy time of it at Wexford over fences last time out and he kept on to finish eighth. It stands to reason that he’ll need to be ridden with more intensity if he’s to feature here. Having been tried at a variety of distances, it’s hard to know what his ideal trip is but his eighth in a two-mile maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in November 2021 indicated that 2m1f should be fine.

4.15 Cartmel

Slate Lane (10-3, bet365) finished third in his sole start in point-to-points and the horse who finished in fourth has since won under rules. He didn’t show a great deal in three starts over hurdles for Paul Hennessy, albeit he was up against a couple of smart Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott prospects in two of those. There’s plenty of stamina in his pedigree and the step up to 2m6f looks likely to suit. British maidens tends to be less competitive than Irish ones so this represents his best opportunity, on stable debut.
