8.40pm Sandown Betting Tips & Race Preview 20/07/2016

Our betting tips for the 5f handicap on Wednesday’s Sandown card focus on a runner given a good chance by the handicap. Read the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Jaywalker, who is lightly raced for his age, deserves plenty of credit for overcoming a wide draw to strike over C&D last month and is respected off a 3lb higher mark today. However, there is some value to be had with NEWTON’S LAW, who wasn’t suited by the soft ground when comfortably held here 19 days ago and has been given a good chance by the handicapper if able to build on his fairly encouraging seasonal reappearance two starts ago. Stall 7 is not ideal but he’s worth chancing at the odds on offer. Northern-raider Sir Domino posted a decent effort at Carlisle last time but may need some underfoot ease to be seen to best effect. Old-timer Secret Asset also enters calculations.

1 Jaywalker – Lightly raced 5yo who showed good speed from a poor draw when winning over C&D last month; beaten only 1l when third off revised mark at Bath (5f, good) last time, having been short of room in the closing stages; return to this track a likely plus and he needs to be taken very seriously.

2 Long Awaited – Claimed by Conor Dore after finishing second on the AW in May and made quite encouraging debut for new connections when strong-finishing fourth in Goodwood handicap (5f, good to firm) last month; subsequent record is mixed but he ran well at Windsor to starts ago and current career-low mark makes him impossible to rule out.

3 Secret Asset – Very long in the tooth now but was smart in his prime and has hit the target as an 11yo this year, at Lingfield (5f, AW) in February; posted sound effort when fourth at Chester (5f, good) last month and is well drawn again today; probably won’ be far away.

4 Newton’s Law – Often sluggish in the early stages but won off a 4lb higher mark at Newmarket (5f, good) last summer and made satisfactory seasonal reappearance at Salisbury last month; not suited by soft ground when comfortably held over C&D last time and, despite an awkward draw, he makes the shortlist.

5 Sir Domino – Suited by a stiff track and has made the journey from Kevin Ryan’s North Yorkshire base for this; did well to finish second off today’s mark at Carlisle (5f, good to soft; refitted cheekpieces) recently, having fluffed the start, and has a decent draw here, but would make more appeal on slower ground.

6 Little Voice – Just about held her own in Group/Listed company as a 2yo but has only a 5f Chepstow maiden win to her name and weakened out of contention when reappearing over 6f at Newbury last month; might fare better now dropped back in trip and with that run under her belt but stall 8 makes things awkward.

7 Clumber Street – Joined Lee Carter for 3,400gns after winning 5f AW seller for David Brown last month; has the plum draw against the far-side rail here but will need to better that performance to follow-up in this handicap; sports first-time hood.

8 Ask The Guru – Gained a narrow success off a 2lb higher mark at Bath (5.7f, good to firm) in May but was unable to capitalise on a favourable position against the far-side rail when only sixth to Jaywalker over C&D last month and finished last of eight on the AW when last in action; needs to get back on track.

myracing Forecast Prices: 2/1 Jaywalker, 7/2 Sir Domino, 6/1 Secret Asset, 8/1 Long Awaited, Newton’s Law, Clumber Street, 10/1 Little Voice, 12/1 Ask The Guru
