Irish horse racing punter wins staggering €200,000 from shrewd bet

Killarney Racecourse

The luck of the Irish, eh! A County Galway punter is celebrating a landslide win of about 200,000 euros after his selection of outsiders beat the large odds to land a remarkable bet on the gee-gees.

The customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, placed his bets with BoyleSports last Saturday. He struck gold with a brazen €5 each-way patent on three massive-priced horses at three separate meetings across the UK and Ireland.

How did he pick those out?

His first selection was Mac Swiney, a staggering shout picked out at odds of 33/1 in the 4.45 at the Curragh. The horse went off at 28/1 and duly obliged.

Next up was 20/1 selection Mortal who was backed into 14/1 before going on to land the 5.35 at Killarney.

He only had to wait 10-15 minutes for the final leg which was running in the 5.55 at Chelmsford, where Glowing For Gold went on to beat the odds of 33/1.

That is simply an outstanding bet, hats off to the man! That was enough to make sure he bagged an initial total of €137,825.25 just from his patent, but he wasn’t finished yet.

And there’s more….

The man from Galway also added a €3 each-way permed patent which delivered three winners in Rough Diamond (selected at 40/1), Mortal (selected at 20/1) and Melburnian (selected at 18/1).

His total outlay for both bets was €238 and he walked out of the Boylesports office with €201,524.85 in his back pocket, the price of a nice house in Galway!

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “This is a truly life-changing sum of money to pick up so we send huge congratulations to our Galway customer on their stunning piece of work. We didn’t see it coming at those odds, but fair play to them for making it a weekend they’ll never forget.”
