Tips for Sedgefield Races

A National Hunt only track, Sedgefield Racecourse is located south of the city of Durham. It used to have a run-in of 525 yards (over 2 furlongs) from the final fence to the winning post, which is even longer than the Grand National. But a plain fence was introduced in 1994 to make the run-in a more conventional length.

Course: Both the chase and hurdle courses are left-handed ovals with a circuit of 1 mile 2 furlongs. It is quite undulating and there is an uphill finish to the line so we look for tips that stay the distance well. The fences are seen as relatively easy and because there can be small fields, it can be advantageous for our tips to have tactical speed.

Feature Race: The Durham National takes place in October over a distance of 3 miles 5 furlongs and as conditions can get testing, it can be a gruelling race.
