Tips for Salisbury Races

Salisbury first started racing in the 16th century, and legendary jockey Lester Piggott made his first racecourse appearance here aged twelve. It has a strong two year old program through the summer.

Course: For distances up to one mile, the straight course is used. Mainly uphill, this is a difficult test for two year olds. Over longer distances, a tight loop is used, meaning a downhill start and a seven furlong uphill run in. For that reason, our Salisbury tips lean towards horses who can settle well into their races and can see out the trip well.

Draw Bias: There is no strong evidence draw bias at Salisbury.

Feature Races: Salisbury boasts two Group 3 feature races towards the end of summer. The Sovereign Stakes in August is run over a mile for three year olds plus, while the Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes in September is run over six furlongs and is for two year old fillies only.
