4.00pm Perth Tips & Betting Preview 27/09/2017

4.00pm Perth tips for Wednesday’s Class 3 race. Although only four go to post, these are only separated by eight pounds in the handicap and this should be a close affair. Read on for our free betting tips, predictions and analysis.

IN SUMMARY: This looks like the perfect opportunity for CARRIGDHOUN to make a winning return for Maurice Barnes. A three time winner last season, this likeable old timer goes well fresh and has his ideal conditions here. He should be allowed a soft lead and he’ll be very tough to beat from the front under three pound claimer Dale Irving. Arctic Gold is well handicapped on his hurdling form, but is risky after two poor runs over fences thus far.

1 ARCTIC GOLD – Only two chasing runs thus far for Nigel Twiston-Davies, leaving behind a poor chasing debut to finish second at Warwick in February to a promising sort. He was running well enough over hurdles in the spring and is well handicapped over fences, so if getting his act together he should be in the mix. He’s risky though.

2 CARRIGDHOUN – Three wins last season for Maurice Barnes, including two starts ago at Carlisle where he rallied gamely to win in great style. He goes on heavier ground and loves a stamina test, tending to go well fresh. He’s on a workable mark and, with the chance for a soft lead, he should be tough to beat here.

3 BALLYBEN – In good form around this time last year but two runs in 2017 have yielded poor results, well beaten at Kelso on his latest start. He now returns from 170 days off and he remains on a tough mark at present, so it’s very easy to look elsewhere, especially on heavy ground.

4 URTHEONEIWANT – Irish raider for Gordon Elliott who scored over course and distance in July, nearly repeating the feat when second two weeks ago. That form would give her a chance, yet heavy ground is far from ideal and may see her stamina stretched too far on this occasion.
