Its the lucky last at Kempton as ten go to post for a tricky Class 6 handicap run over the mile, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: This rates as a tricky race to piece together but this could be a chance for twelve year old PALACE MOON to etch up his eighth win. He returned this season when finishing seventh at Lingfield, running well for a long way before weakening late on and should come on for that outing. He has the assistance of George Baker today which is another positive and is now 4lb below his last winning mark, so has to be respected. The lightly raced Bassino could be the main danger as long as he brushes off his latest poor performance at Wolverhampton two weeks ago.
ROCKET RONNIE – Yet to win from nine starts on the all weather and an overall record of six wins from fifty doesn’t immediately impress, with a regressive profile in the main. Now down to a mark of 55, he’s 10lb lower than his last winning mark on the turf so is certainly well handicapped, but you have to question his work ethic at this stage with that win coming way back in October 2015. Hard to recommend and other make far more appeal.
BASSINO – Lightly raced four year old but failed to build on a good second at Wolverhampton in January when a well beaten sixth over the same C&D last Monday (1m, Std). Remains on the same mark and surely has races in him off this mark, but its hard to make a case for him above others with what he’s shown thus far. Possible place claims if back to the form of his penultimate start with Rachael Kneller claiming 5lb but others make more appeal for win purposes.
HENRY GRACE – Record of one win from twenty-one on the all weather and has a losing run that now stretches back to January 2015, albeit over C&D. He has however performed well the last thrice over C&D, finishing a close third in a similar race in January (1m, Std) in a race that not many got into. He has the services of 5lb claimer Hollie Doyle for today’s run which is a plus and he’s entitled to go well again off the same mark and looks one of the likelier types, and has to be respected.
MULLED WINE – Lightly raced but hasn’t exactly shown much on any of his seven runs to date, not going close on any of those occasions. Dropped back in trip after being well beaten here over the 1m 4f trip in January but doesn’t look any more likely dropped back to this distance. Best to look elsewhere.
PALACE MOON – Age has slowly caught up to this twelve year old, though he did win at Lingfield at March last year off a 4lb higher mark than today’s and is still more than capable of a good run a this level. returned this season when finishing seventh at Lingfield (1m, Std to Slw), running well for a long way before weakening late on and should come on for that outing. He has the assistance of George Baker today which is another positive and is now 4lb below his last winning mark, so has to be respected.
JUST FAB – Still a maiden after fifteen attempts and more was certainly expected on stable debut for Lee Carter when she was beaten out of sight at the six furlong trip. That was a disappointing effort even allowing for the six furlong trip being too short, as she was never involved at any stage and was beaten a long way. Needs much more if she’s to feature today and a return to the mile trip may help, but others seem much more likely and she can be only watched today.
I CAN’T STOP – Wasn’t beaten far on a decent enough debut back in February 2016 but she has slowly regressed since then, well beaten when last seen last week at Chelmsford (1m, Std) never involved and only plugging on past beaten rivals. Needs more if she’s to be a threat for Milton Bradley and others are much more interesting, so is passed over today.
WEST LEAKE – Last win came way back in April 2015, but he has dropped 12lb since then and ran a reasonable race to finish third here over the seven furlong trip two weeks ago, albeit in a Class 7 race. Drops another 2lb and is now on a career low mark, though at the age of eleven he probably needs a mark this low as improvement wont be forthcoming. Needs more back up in class and others certainly make more appeal, and he’s resigned to place claims at best today.
CHANDRAYAAN – Overall record of four wins from fifty-six on the all weather doesn’t aspire much confidence, though his last win did come over C&D in March 2016 off a 2lb higher mark. He has however been bitterly disappointing since than win with no real efforts of note, and he’s been mediocre at best on his latest two runs in class seven which doesn’t help his case. Impossible to fancy and would be a shock winner.
SEAMOOR SECRET – Consistent in the main, but unfortunately those have been in the midfield and not threatening for win purposes. In twenty-six runs under rules, she has failed to place which makes her impossible to fancy, despite the handicapper giving her a chance by dropping her 6lb to a now career low mark. Can’t be recommended.
