12 handicappers go to post for the the first race of the day on the All Weather at Kempton, a 6f sprint. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: The percentage call is for BURAUQ today, who remains 3lb below his last winning mark after another good effort at Lingfield over six furlongs on his latest start. Things are likely to drop in to place at some stage and in a race where many have question marks, he looks to have found the perfect opportunity to win again with the inform George Baker taking the ride. The main danger is likely to be Great Expectations who needs to show more today but being 14lb below his last winning mark, he surely capable of doing so.
1 CLEVER DIVYA – Improved to win well at Southwell last week (6f, Std) after not showing a great deal in five runs beforehand. The J R Jenkins yard are in good form at present but his four year old now has a lot of work to do under a penalty today, and could find herself vulnerable back onto his last winning mark on his Kempton debut.
2 BURAUQ – Not easy to win with, with a record of 3-32 but has been running consistently well at present, placing in all six of his last six runs. He’s almost certain to run a big race and is still 3lb below his last winning mark, with that win coming in September at Bath (5f, Good to Soft). Inform jockey George Baker takes the ride and he has to be considered a main contender today, with a previous C&D win another positive to boost his already brilliant chances.
3 TIDAL’S BABY – Now 15lb below his last winning mark so is clearly on a fair weight on the best of his form, with his last win coming in July 2013 at Goodwood (5f, Good to Soft). He’s been out of form for a while now however and a return to Tony Carroll with have to work wonders for him to feature today on his first start since July, market possibly the best guide today.
4 GREAT EXPECTATIONS – Has been a long time between drinks, with his last victory coming in September 2015 at Brighton (6f, Good), and he’s had plenty of chances. Now 14lb below his last winning mark but hasn’t shown enough in recent all weather runs to suggest he’ll be competitive here. Hard to fancy with an all weather record of 1-23 today.
5 MULTI QUEST – Inconsistent sort and although she was a good 2nd at Chelsmford in October (6f, Std), her latest 8th of 13 is more like her usual form (5f, Std). Has a record of 1-23 on the all weather which further tempers enthusiasm and he’s still 7lb above she’s last winning mark, so doesn’t strike as the likely winner today, with her previous visits to Kempton also yielding no useful efforts.
6 NASRI – 11 year old who is a dual C&D winner but has been well below form in his last seven runs, struggling to beat a rival in most. Visor goes on and he performs well over this C&D in the main, but in his current vein of form he’s impossible to fancy and despite the inform Stevie Donohoe taking the ride, the percentage call is to avoid today.
7 ZOPHILLY – Showed a small amount of promise at a very ordinary level in maidens, but has shown nothing of note on his latest four starts, finishing 9th of 11 at Wolverhampton on his latest start (5f, Std). Easy to oppose today on balance and others look more convincing.
8 BLANCO – Has run thrice over three varying trips, with his best effort coming over C&D last time out, although he was still well beaten and never in contention. Judging by his pedigree he’d do better with a long trip and it is unlikely that he’ll land a blow today.
9 MISTRY – Has hinted a minor ability in maidens, with her latest 6th at Wolverhampton her best so far (6f, Std). Handicap debut today and still needs to raise her game to play a part, but she could be a good each way angle if she finds this easier than the maidens she competed in and progresses further.
10 KRAZY PAVING – 1-19 with that win coming all the way back in October 2014 at Windsor (6f, Heavy), which does concern. He has however shown glimmers of hope that he can win with a very close 2nd at Wolverhampton three starts ago (6f, Std). Needs to do better but has place chances if putting his best foot forward today which could be the case as his only previous effort at Kempton over C&D ended in a close 2nd. Solid Each Way claims.
11 NIDNOD – Only win came on nursery debut in July 2015 at Lingfield (6f, Good to Firm) and has struggled for the majority of her career since, with only three places to show for her efforts. Another horse with a lot to prove, she doesn’t strike as the likely winner today and it would certainly be a surprise to see her get home in front, with a record of 0-11 on the all weather further compounding the case against her.
12 DIAMOND VINE – Slow starter which is a worry but he did have two wins to his name last year, the latest of which came in May at Salisbury (7f, Good to Soft). He has however been out of form since and hasn’t managed to hit the frame on six starts following his latest triumph, and is now 2lb below the mark he won off that day. He races off 48 which looks very generous for his previous exploits of years past but this 9 year old clearly isn’t the horse he was and is best left alone today.
