The feature race on the Fairyhouse card today is unusually devoid of any horses from Willie Mullins’ yard but we still have representatives from some of the top barns in the country.
IN SUMMARY: The two Gigginstown runners hold the key in this race and the market will be a useful guide as to which holds the best chance. With his yard still in scintillating form it can pay to side with DOUBLE SCORES although he makes his chase debut today. He had previously won his maiden hurdle by 12 lengths earlier in the year and he looks the type to make a chaser. His trainer has a good form guide with some of his horses having beaten a few of these and he will know where he stands with this chances. Archive has experience over fences and can make this tell if they go at a good clip and his yard remain in good from also so it may well develop into a match between the two. Lake Takapuna may be set to pounce though if either horse flop today as he is a slick jumper and his time to win may be just around the corner.
Archive – Hasn’t won since Galway last year when winning a 12 runner affair by half a length from Disko from Noel Meade’s yard and Jetstream Jack out of Gordon Elliott’s. Both have already won so far this season but has been out of sorts since that race finishing 5th the last two but only his 3rd run over fences so hope is there for a revival with the yard in good form.
Bendanella – Won a Handicap Hurdle at Sligo back in July and ok form since finishing 343. Finished 14 lengths 3rd behind a nice one from Willie Mullins’ yard and not out of it with further improvement forthcoming.
Double Scores – Easily won a maiden hurdle at Limerick back in March stylishly accounting for his rivals by 12 lengths. Has been off for 7 months and makes his chase debut today and this lightly-raced Point winner can take this with his all-conquering yard still in scintillating form.
Lake Takapuna – Comfortably won a Maiden Hurdle by 5 lengths at Tipperary back in April and has been consistent since without following up. This trip and track should suit and is a slick jumper which will suit his jockey’s style today and a big player if things fall right.
Motown Bob – Has been off the track over a year but finished 2nd on last start to Robert Tyner’s useful Vicangelome . Big player if ready to go after such an absence with the trainer adept at getting one ready after a break and the yard continues in good form.
Ontopoftheworld – Had been off the track 201 days before come back run last month when finishing over 15 lengths behind the well-fancied winner Space Cadet from Gordon Elliott’s yard. Should be sharper for the run but has been average in Chases this year and will struggle in this company.
Paper Lantern – Well held in 6th of 11 runners in a race won by Alpha Des Obeaux at Thurles last month and was never really a factor in that race albeit he was hampered. A similar fate awaits today unless huge improvement can be made but down in a trip today.
Prickly – Decent 3rd behind Ball D’Arc 2 weeks ago having jumped well that day. Got outpaced in that race and may well find it a similar story here with a couple of Gigginstown representatives in the line-up again but solid enough chance on best form.
Rock On Fruity – Have to go back 10 races for his last win at Kilbeggan in June last year winning easily by 2 ¾ lengths on that occasion. Form has been a bit patchy since and may again find it tough today in this line up unless his jumping improves markedly.
