The top jockey at Galway in terms of winners is Declan McDonogh, with Galway’s leading trainer being Dermot Weld. All the in-depth statistics can be found above.
It’s a right-handed mile and a quarter circuit which is fairly undulating. There are some tight turns which plays into the hands of speedy types for our tips. But there is an uphill finish of two furlongs so horses have to stay the distance well in order to get home.
There’s a number of good races over seven furlongs through the season. It’s slightly favourable for our tips to be drawn towards the middle-high numbers.
The Galway Festival lasts seven days and begins on the last Monday in July every year. It’s greatly attended and the racing is of high quality.
