Star Sports We Believe In Bookmaking Novices' Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 4)
Crackerjacque silk

Crackerjacque

Analysis
1/1

Crackerjacque won a decent bumper at Sandown in February last year and has made a good start to his career over hurdles, winning two of his three starts. He does carry a double penalty here but should be capable of getting away with it at this level.

14:50
Star Sports National Spirit Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race) (Class 1)
Nurse Susan silk

Nurse Susan

Analysis
3/1

Nurse Susan has done well this season and is definitely going the right way. She was a comfortable winner of a Listed contest at Lingfield on her most recent start and her consistency could give her the edge over Potters Charm.

15:20
Barry Dennis Trophy Handicap Hurdle (Class 4)
Bollin Thou silk

Bollin Thou

Analysis
4/7

Bollin Thou is improving at a rapid rate and the eight-year-old is showing no signs of stopping. Nick Schofield’s gelding completed a four-timer in a better race at Sandown last time out and can oblige once again, despite going up another 6lb.

starsports.bet Handicap Hurdle (Class 5)
Local Derby silk

Local Derby

Analysis
15/8

Chris Gordon is always a trainer to follow at Fontwell and last time out scorer Local Derby could add to his tally of winners. The lightly raced hurdler produced a much improved performance to win on just his second handicap start and further progress can’t be ruled out.

16:20
Star Sports Handicap Hurdle (Class 4)
The Boss Bear silk

The Boss Bear

Analysis
5/2

The Boss Bear won a bumper here in May and went on to beat a subsequent winner on his first start over hurdles at Plumpton in December. Second under a penalty at Fakenham after that, handicaps could be the way to go and this is a workable opening mark.

Red Acres Max silk

Red Acres Max

Analysis
7/4

Red Acres Max certainly wasn’t a cheap purchase and a £240,000 price tag comes with significant expectations. He showed a good attitude to win a point-to-point at Dromahane in November and a big run could be on the cards on his first start under rules.

Tips for Fontwell Races

Situated in West Sussex, Fontwell is a jumps only track that was first opened in 1924. It is the racecourse where Queen Elizabeth II had her first ever winner as an owner when Monaveen claimed the Chichester Handicap Chase in 1949.

Course: The hurdles track is a left-handed oval where the circuit is a mile. The chase course is unique as it is in the shape of a figure-of-eight meaning the horses turn both right and left-handed, because of this it doesn’t suit big, long-striding types and we always bear that in mind for our tips.

Feature Race: The Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle takes place in February at a distance of just over 2 miles and 3 furlongs for which we will have a full preview and tips. It is recognised as a trial for the Cheltenham Festival and has been won by festival winners in the past such as Baracouda and My Way de Solzen.
