Tips for Down Royal Races

Located near Lisburn in Northern Ireland, Down Royal Racecourse is just off the A1, which is the main Belfast to Dublin road. We’ll have tips for both National Hunt and Flat racing throughout the year where the Ulster Derby meeting is the Summer highlight and the Northern Ireland Festival of Racing takes centre stage in the Winter.

Course: Both codes take place on the right-handed, undulating and galloping track with a circuit of 1 mile 7 furlongs in the shape of a square, with a 5 furlong chute for shorter races. Because of the stiff nature of the track, it demands that our tips stay the distance well in order to gallop right through the line.

Draw Bias: Over 5 furlong and 7 furlong races in particular it is an advantage to be drawn high as that means our tips are near the inside rail, especially over the 5 furlong trip as there is a turn a couple of furlongs from home which further helps high numbers.

Feature Race: The JNwine.com Champion Chase is a Grade 1 run over 3 miles in November, won previously by Gold Cup victors Kauto Star and Don Cossack.
