It’s a competitive day of racing on Monday, with meetings across Britain and Ireland. We’ll have horse racing tips on the website, including a NAP of the Day. Punchestown is a notoriously tough venue to get home in when the ground is heavy. You need a horse proven in the conditions to be successful and we’ve found three horses who fit that profile on Monday. The details can be found below.
Crooked Path seemed to really enjoy heavy ground when runner-up to a smart type from the Willie Mullins camp at Limerick on St Stephen’s Day and he has to be of interest now in handicap company for the first time over hurdles. The winner has multiple Grade 1 entries and a mark of 115 is very workable for this boy, who will also have the services of the very wanted 7lb claimer Mikey Kenneally. Everything looks set for a big effort here.
Blue Velvet is going to be a warm order for the 2m3f mares’ maiden hurdle and rightly so too. The daughter of Blue Bresil won a Thurles bumper on debut last season, and on her fourth start and hurdles bow, she caught the eye here in a 2m maiden hurdle when second behind stablemate Espresso Milan, who has since gone on to boost the form very nicely.
Springhill Warrior finished second in a Navan maiden hurdle over 2m on debut last March and filled the same spot after an absence over around this course and distance this month, both on heavy ground. He has a couple of decent rivals to beat here but he will relish conditions.
