Willie Mullins has been sending the odd runner here or there to Britain’s smaller meetings this season and that’s set to be the case again on Wednesday. He sends one runner over to Haydock and whilst he’s sure to go off at a short price, the horse in question might not have it all his own way.
One runner for the home team provides a major threat so we’ll take a close look at both horses. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Jarrive De Mee won the second of his two Irish points before joining this yard and he made the perfect start to his career under rules when winning a maiden hurdle at Thurles in November. Patrick Mullins was on board that day and the pair controlled the race from the front, pulling clear to score by a comfortable margin.
No stranger to these shores, the son of Authorized was successful under a penalty at Catterick next time. The step up to an extended 2m3f proved to be no problem but he was made to work for it. He might need to find some improvement to follow up under a double penalty here.
Starcrossed Lover is two from four over hurdles and this horse is no mug. Neil Mulholland’s runner was particularly impressive when winning under a penalty at Hereford on his penultimate start. Too keen when well below-par in a Grade 2 at Kempton last time, you can put a line through it as he’s obviously better than that.
The handicapper has given him a handicap mark of 129, which suggests he’s a useful horse, and one would imagine that the best is yet to come. It’s easy to make the argument that this horse has achieved more so far and he looks like a solid alternative to the Irish raider.
