The Dublin Racing Festival is always informative and the top-class racing isn’t to be missed. Leopardstown’s two-day winter highlight gave us loads of Cheltenham clues and definitely shook up some of the betting markets. It’s not always about the winners though, so we’ve picked out three beaten horses who could be worth siding with on their next starts.
These include a Gordon Elliott-trained runner who ran a cracker on his first start back after a break. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
This horse only made his rules debut in bumper in November and he was unbeaten in two starts in that sphere, before connections quickly made the switch to hurdles. The five-year-old won a Leopardstown maiden hurdle impressively and the second has boosted that form since. Only going down by a short head in the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle, he lost nothing in defeat and remains a smart prospect.
We’ve got our answer now and it appears that Lossiemouth should be running over 2m4f. Brighterdaysahead had too much pace for her in the Irish Champion Hurdle and with that in mind, surely connections will go for the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham next time. Mullins’ mare is unbeaten over 2m4f and that’s the trip over which she will thrive going forwards.
Gordon Elliott’s Western Fold has improved rapidly over fences this season and he was an easy winner of the Galway Plate in the summer. It’s very useful that he remains a novice, as connections can have a look at the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham now. He couldn’t quite live with Kaid d’Authie in the Ladbrokes Novice Chase but a step back up in trip will surely see him to best effect.
