Now the Cheltenham Festival is out of the way, National Hunt fans will now be turning their attentions to Aintree. The Grand National is the main event there and we may well have seen the 2025 and 2026 winners at Cheltenham this week.
Here we take a look at two impressive Cheltenham winners that could be well set to go on to Grand National glory in the future. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Inothewayurthinkin looked pretty average in his first three starts of the season but came alive on the biggest stage to win the Gold Cup on Friday. Galopin Des Champs had no answer for his powerful finishing effort and it was a cracking trial for the Grand National.
Connections haven’t decided if a Grand National bid is next on the agenda but one thing is for sure, he could be miles ahead of the handicapper if lining up next month.
Myretown won’t make it this year, being a novice, but if connections look after his mark, he could follow in the footsteps of former stablemate Corach Rambler. Lucinda Russell’s gelding produced a powerful display from the front to win the Ultima on Day 1 and looks like a future National type.
There are few better trainers of marathon staying chasers in Britain than Lucinda Russell and she knows what’s required to win the race. It’s important that they’re careful where they run him from now on, as the handicapper will respond with a heavy rise but he’ll surely be prominent in the betting.
