Sarah Dawson would not be the most widely known name out there in racing. The trainer, who is based in Banbridge in Northern Ireland, does very well with what she has. She only sent 17 runners to post on the flat last season, resulting in three winners.
It has to be interesting that she feels it worthwhile to send two runners all the way to Haydock Park on Thursday. She only has a very small operation so the cost to herself and connections is something that they must have seriously considered.
Yet to train a winner in nine attempts this season on the Flat, her runners look sure to appreciate the forecast heavy ground on the day. Let us take a look at the two runners more closely.
Dawson’s stable star is Pretty Boy Floyd and he has an obvious chance in the Class 4 Lowton Handicap (4.30). The six-year-old relishes heavy ground, proving so last summer when winning a pair of handicaps on the Curragh in the mud. He finished second of 22 runners in a Premier Handicap on the Curragh a few days ago and will find this assignment much easier.
Likely to open up huge odds thanks to a pair of duck eggs attached to his form line, Ardbrin has little chance on all known form. The two-year-old colt finished down the field in a pair of Irish maidens and the first-time cheekpieces are going to have to bring out some major improvement. His sire Dragon Pulse was a winner on soft so he may handle the testing conditions which is a plus.
