Aidan O’Brien is leading the way in the British Flat Trainers’ Championship once again and York’s Ebor Festival provides another opportunity for him to stretch his lead further. The ante-post markets suggest he already has a massive hand to play in the Group races and the bookies will be on high alert. We’ve selected two potential O’Brien runners at that the bookies are praying won’t turn up. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Delacroix looked like an exceptional Derby prospect when winning a couple of trials at Leopardstown in very impressive fashion. Things didn’t go to plan at Epsom but he bounced right back when returning to 1m2f in the Eclipse at Sandown, where he got the better of Ombudsman.
It certainly bodes well that he’s unbeaten over the trip and he’s pacey enough that connections considered dropping back to a mile. Clearly the son of Dubawi possesses a significant amount of ability and he’s the rightful favourite for York’s showpiece.
Minnie Hauk got the better of stablemate Whirl in the Oaks and it’s fair to say that the form has worked out well. Whirl has since won two Group 1s over shorter and Minnie Hauk followed up in the Irish Oaks, although she was workmanlike at best.
This race is open to older fillies and mares too, which present a new challenge, one she should be capable of rising to. Aidan O’Brien is an expert at getting his horses to improve through the season and if Minnie Hauk follows suit, she’ll justify some very skinny odds.
