Tuesday Nap of the Day: Irish raider the one to side with in competitive maiden hurdle

All four of Gordon Elliott’s entered Ayr runners have been scratched on Tuesday but there’s still a few other Irish names in the hat and one in particular stands out as the best bet of the day. You can find all of our free horse racing tips on the website right now.

Gordon Elliott’s Pour Les Filles was due to run at Thurles the other day but couldn’t get a run as the meeting was abandoned after Michael O’Sullivan’s horrific fall on the day. He was also entered to run in this extended 2m4f maiden hurdle but is one of the four runners from the yard who won’t be travelling across.

He would have went off a very short favourite but that now leaves the door open for Stuart Crawford’s Jony R to take full advantage. The son of Milan has only had two starts to date and he made his debut in a hot bumper around here last April when tailed off behind Jazz De Cotte.

However, Jony R left his debut effort well behind 257 days later on hurdling debut when finishing an eye-catching third of ten behind long odds-on favourite Walking On A Dream here over 2m last month.

Given a prominent ride on the day by JJ Slevin, he led narrowly jumping the last hurdle but was overtaken by two runners on the run-in. He was only beaten around three lengths for a finish and there’s no doubt he should improve drastically for the step up in distance now.

Crawford has sent out five winners from just 16 runners at Ayr already this season so anything he runs here deserves the utmost respect.
