Trainer with four winners from her last six runners sends one to Fontwell on Friday

Emma Lavelle is enjoying a very good recent run of form, with four winners from her last six runners, and she’s surely one to watch with that in mind. She is represented by just one runner at Fontwell on Friday and Harry Cobden has been booked to take the ride. Here we take a look at the horse’s profile and assess his chances of extending his trainer’s excellent recent record. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.55 Fontwell

Call To Duty hasn’t been seen since November and connections will be hoping that the wind surgery he had over the winter can facilitate some improvement. He is still very lightly raced over hurdles though, especially in handicaps, and it’s unlikely that we’ve seen the best of him as of yet.

Stamina has been a concern over longer trips since switching to handicaps and perhaps the drop down to an extended 2m1f will help on that front. Lavelle’s gelding ran well enough for a long way at Uttoxeter in November before his fuel tank emptied and now finds himself on a 4lb lower mark.

Better ground is clearly important to him and his good second in a Stratford novice back in June indicates that he should be capable of winning races at this sort of level. Harry Cobden has ridden plenty of winners for Lavelle this season and it’s a positive that he comes in for the ride once again.

Joe Tizzard’s Ugo Bingo looks like the biggest threat, having won in Class 4 company for previous connections. Lord Maher, Ilitch and Copper Cove also need to be considered here, and whilst Call To Duty has the potential to improve, he may well need to in order to come out on top.
