Trainer with a 57% strike-rate at Newbury this season sends one runner on Friday

Trainer Emma Lavelle is operating at an excellent strike-rate of 57 per cent at Newbury so far this season and she’s set to send one runner to the Berkshire track on Friday. Four winners from just seven runners certainly isn’t to be sniffed at and you can’t rule out her runner with that in mind.

4.02 Newbury

Muskoka has been a consistent performer since switching to handicaps and he remains lightly raced over fences. He found the trip at Kempton a little too short on his chase and seasonal debut, but kept on nicely enough to finish third, despite failing to trouble the winner.

It was therefore a good decision to put him up to 3m1f at Hereford next time and he duly obliged in good style, pulling clear to score by 11 lengths. The handicapper responded with a 7lb rise which seems pretty fair on balance.

Not beaten far when fourth at Wincanton most recently, he’s clearly competitive off this mark and deserves another chance. The slight drop in trip shouldn’t prove too problematic and it wouldn’t be a surprise if there was more to come from this seven-year-old.

Harry Cobden is set to take the ride here and he has developed a successful partnership with Lavelle this season. His course strike-rate is a healthy 23 per cent, with 48 winners from 207 rides in total. Last time out winners Kikijo and Sherborne look like the biggest dangers but Lavelle’s runner could be the one to side with.
