The progressive Katate Dori will receive lumps of weight from the field in the Somerset National over close to 3m3f, and although he has gone up a good bit in the weights recently, the combination of 10-11 and Dylan Johnston’s 3lb claim could prove decisive for an improving type.

A seven-year-old son of Bathyrhon, the gelding made a mockery of a mark of 110 when bolting up by 12 lengths over 3m on heavy ground at Exeter on New Year’s Day. He followed up comfortably from a 7lb higher mark in the fog at Chepstow over the extended 3m2f and a 5lb hike might not halt him here.

In the closing bumper, Thomas also runs Kop Land in the Walters Plant Hire colours. Also sired by Bathyrhon, this gelding was purchased for €90,000 at the Arqana Deauville Summer Sales in 2022.

He is closely related to Earlofthecotswolds, who won a bumper, won over 1m4f-2m on the Flat on the all-weather and has also won over jumps over trips ranging from 2m1f-2m4f. He is also a half-brother to the talented Good Risk At All so there’s plenty of winners in the pedigree. It will be no surprise if this horse goes off a fairly short price.
