Sedgefield has been a happy hunting ground for both trainer Warren Greatrex and jockey James Bowen so far this season. The pair are yet to taste defeat at the track, with the former’s two runners and the latter’s two rides coming out on top. It’s therefore pretty interesting that the pair combine with one runner there on Wednesday and the horse in question has to go into the notebook. Jet Of Dreams has been progressive over fences of late and has won his last two starts in comfortable fashion. He got off the mark over the larger obstacles at Hereford in May and was well suited by patient tactics, in a race where all three of the hold up horses finished in the places.
The handicapper responded with a 6lb rise but that proved to be no problem as he followed up over course and distance on his next start. Greatrex’s six-year-old was waited with again but he kept on well once Bowen pushed the button and was going away at the finish.
Good ground is important to him, as most of his best efforts (including both victories) have come on it. He does have a couple of seconds to his name on good to soft but anything more testing than that would be damaging to his chances.
Attempting to complete the hat-trick here, an extra 4lb shouldn’t make too much difference and further progress shouldn’t be ruled out. Both trainer and jockey will be keen to extend their unbeaten records at the track this season and Bowen is in particularly good form at the moment, with a strike-rate of 35 per cent in the last fortnight.
