Metamorpheus was an easy winner of a maiden hurdle on heavy ground at Punchestown back in 2023 and he has failed to win again since. Maciver ran out a wide margin winner of a handicap chase at Tramore on heavy ground last time out and he reverts to hurdles here. Connections will be looking to take advantage of the fact that his hurdles mark is 4lb lower and if producing a similar performance, he should have every chance.
The Dancing Tree won a bumper here on heavy ground this time last year and the form looks solid enough. Gavin Cromwell’s gelding has failed to produce that level of form in three starts over hurdles but perhaps the switch to handicaps will suit. Significant improvement can’t be ruled out here and the evidence suggests conditions will be a big plus.
