‘This marathon trip is right up his street’ – Liam’s 12/1 ante-post Classic Chase tip

Liam Bramall landed a big Saturday winner with 33/1 selection Glengouly in last month’s December Gold Cup and he’s back with another ante-post fancy for Saturday.

This time he turns his attention to the Classic Chase at Warwick on Saturday and there’s an intriguing 12/1 shot. The horse in question is trying a marathon trip for the first time and it could be right up his street. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.55 Warwick (Saturday)

Makin’yourmindup (12/1, Betfred) has a very good record over both hurdles and fences, having finished first or second in nine of his 12 starts. The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding won a couple of competitive novice handicaps at Newbury a couple of seasons ago and looks well treated on that form.

Staying on strongly at Newbury in March 2024, he saw the trip out well to score by just shy of four lengths. He was giving the runner-up a stone and it was a very smart performance with that in mind. It’s definitely worth noting that he’s back down to the same mark now.

Soft ground is important to him so we would need to see some rain between now and Saturday but there’s plenty to like about his profile. Trying 3m5f for the first time here, there’s a good chance the new trip will suit and the nine-year-old is well worth considering.

Paul Nicholls has had a turbulent season so far but he’s operating at a healthy strike-rate at the moment and that bodes well. Makin’yourmindup was entitled to need the run at Chepstow last time, as it was his first start for 615 days, and better is expected this time around.
