‘This is an attractive mark’ – 25/1 ante-post tip for Saturday’s Grand Sefton

The National Hunt season is fully underway now and racing returns to the Grand National fences on Saturday. Aintree hosts the £75,000 Grand Sefton Handicap Chase and it should be a competitive affair once again. We’ve picked out an ante-post selection at 25/1 that could be worth following as Nicky Henderson’s string might be well handicapped this term. 2.40 Aintree (Saturday)

Persian Time (25/1, bet365) showed every classic sign of needing the run when making his seasonal debut at Kempton recently. This horse jumped and travelled like a dream throughout the race but just blew up approaching the second last. Significant improvement is now expected and there should be room to manoeuvre with his current rating.

Six of the last 10 winners of this race have had a rating below 140 and Persian Time’s mark of 134 looks very attractive. Nicky Henderson’s yard was under a cloud for much of last season and that means he could have plenty of well handicapped horses to go to war with this term.

The son of Califet won twice over fences last term and left the distinct impression that he underachieved. With that in mind, this could be his year and there’s no better way to announce yourself than with victory in a well regarded handicap such as this.

It’s fair to say the yard isn’t quite firing on all cylinders at the moment but this horse has the benefit of having a previous run under his belt. There’s always a danger that he doesn’t take to the fences but he could be well treated if doing so.
