Races over the Grand National fences are always a spectacle and are often competitive betting heats. The Grand Sefton is the first race of the season over the big fences and it’s set to take place on Saturday. There have been a couple of 20/1 winners in the last five years, so there’s some value to be found. Liam Bramall has picked out an ante-post selection for Saturday’s event and the horse in question is 25/1. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Seddon (25/1, bet365) produced a career best performance to win the Magners Plate at the Cheltenham Festival in 2023 and hasn’t been seen too much over fences since. He runs off 138 here and this a very attractive mark when considering his best form.
The 12-year-old is no spring chicken but could have one more big pot in him. Fitness won’t be an issue as he ran in the Cesarewitch last month. Whilst he did finish last of the 19 runners, this is a more suitable test and he should improve for the run.
This would be his first attempt over the National fences and if he takes well to them, a glorious return to form could be on the cards.
We’ve also got a free tip for Wincanton’s £80,000 Badger Beers Handicap Chase and Irish raider Cobra Queen (7/1, bet365) looks very interesting. Henry de Bromhead is in good form at the moment and this progressive chaser won well at Roscommon in September. There should be more to come before the handicapper catches up and she’s one to watch if making the trip over.
