Plenty happened at Glorious Goodwood next week and the biggest shock was Field Of Gold’s Sussex Stakes defeat at the hands of 150/1 shot Qirat. With so much quality racing taking place, there are always going to be winners worth keeping on side in the future.
With this in mind, we’ve selected four Glorious Goodwood winners that are well worth backing next time. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
This filly is exceptional and extremely likeable. Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old is blessed with an outrageous amount of ability and tenacity in equal measure.
She probably deserved to win the Oaks but at least she’s unbeaten over trips at around 1m2f. Proving herself on all types of Ground when winning the Nassau, the heavy going made no difference and she won with plenty in hand. All the big races are open to her and she has no obvious weaknesses.
Another one for Aidan O’Brien, this son of Camelot needed every yard of the 7f trip to win the Class 2 maiden on Saturday. A step up in trip surely beckons for him and the best is almost certainly yet to come. O’Brien loves to win the 1m2f Criterium de Saint-Cloud towards the back end of the year and Isaac Newton could be the perfect candidate.
William Haggas’ three-year-old won the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot and the runner-up boosted the form by placing in the Irish Derby. It’s no surprise that Merchant successfully progressed into Group company and his profile suggests he’ll step forward again next time.
Runner-up to Gstaad in the Coventry Stakes in June, Clive Cox’s colt confirmed the promise he showed that day to win the Richmond Stakes. Adverse weather conditions proved to be no obstacle and he finished strongly to score by two lengths. Clearly this son of Bated Breath is going places.
