‘This doesn’t happen often’ – Watch out for the French and Irish raiders at Lingfield

We have a rare treat on our hands this week as Lingfield‘s all-weather card offers up to Listed contests, which is a rarity for this time of year. That has drawn the attention of Irish trainer Jessica Harrington and France-based handler Gavin Hernon, who are both set to send runners over.

This doesn’t happen often, as the former has only had four previous runners in Britain. Harrington will be seeking a second winner at the track so both runners could be worth keeping an eye on. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.55 Lingfield

Lifting Sails represents the Jessica Harrington yard and she has only had three starts to date. The daughter of Raven’s Pass was second behind a subsequent Listed winner on debut and was a little outpaced when third over 1m2f at the Curragh.

Getting off the mark in good style next time, the extended 1m4f clearly suited and she easily put four lengths between herself and the runner-up. A bit more will be needed at this level but the trip will suit and she’s entitled to progress again.

2.30 Lingfield

Zawan has won two of her nine starts and both successes have come on the all-weather at Deauville. She won an event for unraced fillies on debut in November 2024 and won again over the same distance in August. There could well be more to come and the fact that she runs is interesting in itself.

Hernon’s filly was disappointing in this grade at Chantilly back in March, which leaves her with a bit to find. The yard has been in pretty good form recently with two winners from six runners in the last fortnight, at a strike-rate of 33 per cent.
