‘They’re not there to make up the numbers’ – British raiders form Curragh Lucky 15

It’s Day 2 of the Irish Champions Festival on Sunday and it’s an action-packed eight-race card at the Curragh. There will be some very competitive top racing on show, which is in no doubt aided by strong British representation. They haven’t come for a day out or to make up the numbers and the raiders will be gunning for gold.

Richard Fahey’s Strike Red won the Scurry over course and distance last summer and is now 1lb lower in the weights. He arrives here off the back of a good second in a valuable York handicap and looks set to go very close.

Bedtime Story could be a class above but if she falters Ollie Sangster’s Simmering might be up to the task. The Group 3 Princess Margaret winner at Ascot went on to land Group 2 succces at Deauville last time but she will have to improve again.

Bradsell landed a second 5f Group 1 success when seeing off the reopposing Believing in the Nunthorpe at York last time, but it has to be said he was well drawn. Nonetheless, he will take some stopping at present.

Aomori City improved for the step up in trip when landing the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last time and this is a race Charlie Appleby has had great success in with three winners in the last five years. Has to be respected given the connections.
