‘They can save his season’ – Three Gordon Elliott horses to back at Aintree

Gordon Elliott Bigbadandbeautiful

This year’s Cheltenham Festival was a tough one for Gordon Elliott, who is used to having plenty of winners there. He didn’t have any until the very last race on Friday and he’ll surely be looking to bounce back at Aintree and Punchestown. We’ve selected three horses that are likely to line up at Aintree and they can save his season by providing him with some Grade 1 victories. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Brighterdaysahead

Elliott’s star mare never looked herself in the Champion Hurdle and perhaps Cheltenham just isn’t her track. It’s also worth noting that she’s probably better over further and the Aintree Hurdle is the perfect target. Having bolted up in a course and distance Grade 1 novice hurdle last season, we know the track is fine and the extra four furlongs will definitely be in her favour.

Croke Park

This talented novice chaser has already won two Grade 1 races over fences and the second of those came at the expense of useful stablemate Better Days Ahead. The 3m1f Grade 1 novice chase is on the agenda for him and, having skipped Cheltenham, he could have an advantage. It’s a slight concern that he flopped here over hurdles last season but he looks like a different horse this term.

Teahupoo

He found only course specialist Bob Olinger too good in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham and won’t have that problem here. Some say Teahupoo needs soft ground but he thrives in the spring and may well improve for his last run. Clearly a talented hurdler, he would surely be the one to beat if heading over to Aintree and is entitled to go very close.
