‘Their record is ridiculous’ – This 73/1 Appleby/Buick treble is the play at Newmarket

Charlie Appleby and William Buick are always a dangerous combination but that’s particularly true at Newmarket’s July Course. Their combined record here is a ridiculous 41 per cent and they join forces with three runners on Friday. Not only that, two of their representatives are two-year-old debutants and Appleby’s strike-rate is healthy in that regard too. 5.20 Newmarket

Al Zanati (7/4, bet365) is one of two in the race for Appleby and he gets the nod from William Buick. The son of Dubawi is brother to a winner in France and his dam was a Group 3 winner on dirt for this yard. There are plenty of reasons to be confident of a big run on debut here.

5.55 Newmarket

Ribbon Of Sea (2/1, bet365) comes with a substantial price tag, having cost 1,600,000 guineas at the sales in October. There’s plenty of stamina in her pedigree as her sister Sea Silk Road won a Group 1 over 1m6f for William Haggas in her racing career. A mile looks like a good starting point with that in mind, although she’s likely to thrive over further as a three-year-old.

6.30 Newmarket

Harbor Lock (8/1 bet365) didn’t show a great deal on debut at Ascot last month and he’ll need to take a big step forward. Appleby’s juveniles do tend to progress with experience so it’s far from out of the question. His debut effort suggested that he needed the run and perhaps we can expect better this time around.
