We have an absolute treat in store for racing fans next week, with both Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Festival taking place. One of the biggest race at Galway is the Galway Hurdle so we’ve had a ante-post look at the race. One horse in particular stands out and the trends are in his favour.
The horse in question’s trainer is also in excellent form so he could be shorter on the day. With this in mind, now could be the time to get on! Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Mr Percy (8/1, bet365) represents the Joseph O’Brien yard and the lightly raced sort has only had five starts over hurdles so far. You would imagine that he’s unexposed and this will be just his second start in handicap company. There’s plenty to like about his profile and the trends are also in his favour.
The son of Sir Percy made his first start over hurdles in October, where he got no further than the first. His jumping was much improved at Limerick and he duly obliged with a comfortable success. Struggling a little when well beaten on handicap debut at Leopardstown, he would have learnt plenty from that. O’Brien’s five-year-old bounced back with victory in Grade 2 company and there could be more to come.
Fitness won’t be an issue, despite not running over hurdles for 117 days, as he had a spin on the Flat less than two months ago. Victorious that day, he won a decent handicap at the Curragh over 1m6f by a neck. It’s certainly a positive that he arrives in good form, as does his trainer Joseph O’Brien.
