‘The track should take a bit of getting’ – three soft ground lovers at Doncaster

We have a very attractive card to look forward to at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday but it can be a place where soft ground horses thrive. It’s always wise to go with horses who have form in the mud and who stay further as it is a long ol’ run to the line here. Let’s take a look at the three horses who I think could go well on the ground on Saturday.

11.45 Doncaster

Stanage won in first-time blinkers on the all-weather at Chelmsford when last seen and he equally goes on a sound surface, but he ran very well over course and distance on his debut on soft ground and there’s every chance he will handle it again here. He won his latest 7f maiden in commanding fashion and the son of Kingman can take another leap forward on his handicap debut.

12.15 Doncaster

It Just Takes Time won back-to-back handicaps at Beverley and Leicester in September and October, on good to soft at the former track and on heavy at the latter. He was nowhere near that level back on the all-weather at Southwell but a return to turf and an ease in the ground should see him bounce right back to form.

1.20 Doncaster

Korker won twice in the autumn last year in testing conditions and although he hasn’t won since, it could be his turn to strike. Third in the Ayr Gold Cup on rapid ground, he was only beaten two lengths into fifth in an Ascot Group 3 latest and he will be a big danger to all on softer ground taking a drop in class.
